7 reasons to visit Croatia

Croatia, situated on the Adriatic Sea is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, rich in culture and history. It's unique location is the main reason to visit it and enjoy all its benefits. Blue, crystal clear waters, Mediterranean, warm climate, delicious food and wine, affordable accommodation, breathtaking national parks. If you still haven't seen Plitvice Lakes, you must come and visit... What could you want more? I really enjoyed visiting Croatia and here I am presenting a few reasons why you also should visit this awesome country.

1. History and culture

History of Croatia is very rich and unique. Around fifty Stone Age sites were discovered all over the territory of the country. Numerous caves, where many hand made objects created by ancient humans were found, have been discovered. Croatian history is filled with many interesting facts - this is one of the reasons why it is so attractive to tourists from around the world.

The sites inhabited by Neanderthals, within the territory of Croatia, are one of the most important in Europe. A good example of this is the Kapina man that lived in the region about 130 thousand years BC and is one of the symbols of Balkans.

Croatian cities - Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar have also a long history, dating back to the Roman times, their centers are built around the ancient ruins which integrate beautifully with the medieval constructions.

2. Gastronomy

Food is an integral part of Croatian tradition and culture. In Croatia, people really enjoy preparing their meals. The food is prepared slowly, with care, using various kinds of meat and plenty of fresh vegetables. And, of course a good dessert and delicious coffee is an essential part of a meal. Croatian cuisine is strongly influenced by East and West. Specialties made of sea food, meat and dairy products are exceptionally popular among tourists. Come and try it yourself!

3. The Beauty of The Nature

Beautiful Adriatic Sea, amazing beaches, turquoise waters, mountainous ranges and national parks will leave you breathless. The Croatian coast is considered to be one of the most wonderful in Europe, with its thousands of islands and islets. To be honest the beauty of Croatian nature was the reason why I still keep going back to this country. Just try to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park and you will see for yourself why.

4. Sunny Days

The area of Croatia is divided into three major geographical climate zones: the north with moderate continental climate, hot dry summers and cold and wet winters, central with mountainous climate with cool summers and severely cold winters, and Adriatic coast (the favorite part of Croatia for many) with Mediterranean climate. The average of sunshine hours is 2.600 per year - making Croatia one of the sunniest regions on the Mediterranean basin.

5. Croatian Wines

If you like wine, in Croatia you shouldn't miss the opportunity to try its delicious, high quality wines. The country, due to its climate has many wineries. The wine is produced according to traditional, natural recipes and it's intended for the most experienced wine lovers. You will enjoy every glass, every drop will provide you with a feeling of satisfaction.

6. Private Accommodation

Private accommodation in Croatia is of a superb quality and at very reasonable prices. Affordable private apartments will give you an opportunity to peek into the very essence of Croatian customs, culture and cuisine. The kindness of the hosts will surprise you - they will always be there to give you answers to any ambiguities and questions you may have. You will surely enjoy it.

7. Prices

Now, this is one of everyone's favorite reasons. Prices in Croatia for the services and food you get will surprise you. Especially if you compare them with many other European countries. For example, for around 10 EUR I had an enormous 3-course meal in a restaurant with a beautiful sea view in Split.

It's a standard in Croatia, like in other countries in the Balkans - the prices are low for tourists but the quality is no different from Western Countries.
