Switzerland on a Budget - How to Save Money Travelling in Switzerland

Switzerland is Europe's most expensive country to go to. Nevertheless, despite of its small size, it has so much to offer and it’s extremely diverse (just like some other little countries I love - Georgia, Albania or Slovenia). You might know Switzerland because of the Alps but not that many heard about the Swiss Riviera full of palm trees and Mediterranean climate. Unfortunately, unlike the aforementioned countries, travelling through Switzerland might break the bank if you’re not careful enough - well, that only applies to those on a budget - if you’re rich, this post is not for you ;). Here there are some tips on how to save money while visiting Switzerland - based on my own experiences and our journey across this beautiful Alpine country.

How Expensive is Zurich, Switzerland? What to See in One of the Most Popular Swiss Cities

Zurich was the first place that we visited in Switzerland - one of the most popular destinations in the country. It's quite small and charming, it has a unique atmosphere more of a town rather than a city. As it happened many times before, although Zurich was very nice, it was my least favorite destination in the country. Just like with Ljubljana in Slovenia or Bucharest in Romania. If you want to see the real Swiss paradise, you must go out of the popular cities such as Zurich or Geneva.

Swiss Alps - Aerial View

Swiss Alps - Aerial View

Pictures taken while flying over Swiss Alps. The highest peak is Monte Rosa - 4,634 meters (15203 feet) above sea level. It's an exceptionally interesting area to be viewed from an airplane. Swirling clouds combined with the snowy peaks, turquoise lakes and rivers that are twisted like little ribbons stuck in between rocky slopes are truly impressive. The views can provide good entertainment during an otherwise boring flight. I hope you'll enjoy the photos.
