The Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen in the Norwegian language) is a massive cliff that reminds of a huge stone block with an almost flat, rectangular, table like surface on the top. It rises 604 meters (1982 ft.) above the sea level and provides unbelievably spectacular views overlooking the Lysefjord (of course, granted that the weather is good). The Pulpit Rock is located in Ryfylke, Rogaland region of Norway, around 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the town of Stavanger hich is the starting point for most of the trips to the cliff. The best time for hiking Preikestolen is during the summer season from April until October when the weather is relatively warm.
Majorca (Mallorca) - Beyond the beaches and resorts
Majorca (or Mallorca in Spanish), a small Island (although the biggest among the Balearic Islands) in the Mediterranean Sea, is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Europeans, especially in the summer season. However, if you decide to visit the island in the fall, the weather will still be nice and you're not going to meet as many crowds as in high season. The low season is also a perfect time for traveling around Majorca and discovering some less known spots, you will see for yourself that there's much more to the island than the 'resort-style' touristy beaches.
Ollantaytambo, Peru - The stop between Cuzco and Machu Picchu
Ollantaytambo, located at 2792 meters (9160 feet), lies in the picturesque Sacred Valley on the Patacancha river near the town of Urubamba, in between the capital city of the Incas - Cuzco and the Machu Picchu ruins. It's not as well known as the spectacular ancient city of Machu Picchu, but nonetheless worth visiting for those who want to learn more about the Inca Empire. The ruins, perched atop of nearby hills, give silent testimony of once advanced and highly organized civilization. Ollantaytambo is usually a stop for all tourists who come to see Machu Picchu, you should reserve at least one day for visiting, either on the way to Machu Picchu or while coming back to Cuzco.
Polish Countryside and Meadows - Wildflower Photography
Photos that I took on a beautiful sunny day while strolling through meadows and green grass fields in the south-eastern region of Poland, Malopolskie Province near the town of Nowy Sacz. The area is rich in natural beauty, breathtaking landscapes and little villages with wooden old houses scattered among the rolling hills. In the south of the region, there are endless swathes of primeval forests cut with little streams and multiple tourist trails. It's a place where you can forget about the hectic city life and succumb to the charm of the peaceful surroundings of nature.
Yerevan, Armenia - The Pink City
Yerevan, the capital of Armenia is called "The pink city" because of the color of the stone used for building. Indeed, while driving through Armenian countryside you can easily spot that the houses along the way blend into the pinkish hills. Yerevan is a great example of the architecture from the Soviet Times. The buildings are concrete, heavy, and massive, streets are wide and the center city square is very spacious. After the world wars, the city of Yerevan was supposed to become 'a perfect city', designed by the architect Alexander Tamanyan. Yerevan is completely different than the neighboring capital of Georgia - Tbilisi that has medieval charm and wooden architecture with distinctive balconies leaning out over the cliffs. It' good to visit the two cities one after another, this way you will be able to experience the clash of two different eras even more.
Southern Mauritius - Pont Naturel (Natural Bridge), Gris-Gris and Rochester Falls
Mauritius, the paradise island on the Indian Ocean, although not large in size, is exceptionally rich in natural beauty. Actually, the size of the island can be its biggest asset as far as visiting is concerned. The amazing gorges, beaches, cliffs, waterfalls and natural wonders are situated just a few steps away one from another. The tropical climate is ideal for vacation too, all year round.
Uplistsikhe - Ancient Cave Town in Georgia
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
Plitvice Lakes National Park (Plitvicka Jezera) lies between the Croatian capital Zagreb and the Adriatic coast town - Zadar. This largest National Park of Croatia is without a doubt one of the most beautiful National Parks in Europe. The area consists of cascades of sixteen crystal clear turquoise lakes, waterfalls, forests, canyons and gorges. It is a perfect place for hiking, enjoying the natural wonders and long exposure photography. The wooden trails along the way, which make walking easy, allow you to come really close to the waterfalls. The whole park is quite big and it takes at least five - six hours to see everything. The entry fee is 110
The tallest building in the world - Burj Khalifa and modern Dubai
Dubai - the oil-rich Emirate surrounded by golden dunes of the desert has become a symbol of everything that's largest, tallest and most luxurious. It's hard to believe that a few decades ago this place was just a small fishermen village. With a huge airport and famous Emirates Airlines it is easy to get there from basically any major European or Asian city. Many people seek shelter there from harsh continental winters, within just a few hour flight they can get back to the summer and sunbathe on the beaches. Dubai is a very cosmopolitan and relatively liberal city, although you have to obey some strange rules for westerners, like for example the ban on taking photos on the beach.
Wild Rhododendron Gardens in Howth, Ireland
If you don't know where to go on a sunny day in Dublin, Howth Rhododendron Gardens can be a great alternative to the crowded city parks. In contrast to the very popular center of Howth village, which when the weather is good, attracts many people looking for an escape from the busy capital, Rhododendron Gardens are relatively a little known, peaceful and relaxing place, ideal for hiking, picnics, enjoying the beauty of nature as well as admiring spectacular views of the peninsula, and you can be sure you won't meet crowds of people there, even during the long summer days.
